MANCHESTER GAMES AWARDS

BEST GAME
Ethan Finn "Grapple Mania"

Ethan is fantastic! He has created an incredibly creative and near professional standard 3D game. He was tasked to create a mechanics showcase and designed a grapple mechanic and a game to to make the most out of this. His game has been fully animated in 3D, uses a training section to teach the player how to use his grapple mechanic, and then, once the player has learned his mechanic, uses classic game design principles with flair.

BEST GAME ART
Alara Berry

Alara is a hugely talented and prolific artist, who has worked very hard for two years studying form, colour, lighting, perspective and other technical aspects of art and developing her own unique style. During this time, she has also been helping other learners with their work and passing on her own skills and wisdom. Alongside her technical skill, Alara also brings a high level of fun to her work and a real sense of narrative and story to her art.

BEST GAME DESIGN/ DEVELOPMENT
Ethan Finn

Ethan started his RSPB project before it was even released - it is one of the best and original ideas I have seen that has, when finished, a genuine chance of success as a mobile game. The aim of the game is to plant trees and stop the lumberjacks from cutting them down.

I Went Into The Woods.mov

BEST FILM/VIDEO
Ellie Hackney & Nieve Reyes "I Went Into The Woods"

Nieve and Ellie have created a short film independently for the RSPB nature project. The concept was to recreate an 8mm style cine film imbued with nostalgic resonances of the 1970s and a timeless sense of a dream-like innocence of summer before 'The Fall'. The quality of the cinematography is matched by the application of the digital effects. The viewer is engaged and able to relate to the content on a personal level. This is a truly unforgettable piece of work that demonstrates the skill and artistry Nieve and Ellie and developed whilst on the course.
