BIRMINGHAM MUSIC AWARDS

BEST BAND
Tar-Gits

A fantastic band who've worked hard in and out of the rehearsal room. This band put a lot into their songwriting and have consistently been both strong and outstanding performers throughout their two years at ACC. Tar-Gits have taken every opportunity to rehearse or perform and are great assets to the Birmingham centre.

BEST SOLO ARTIST
Saskia Lee-Barnes

Saskia has excelled as a vocalist and has overcome a variety of anxiety issues to ensure she still gets on stage and does a great performance.

BEST PRODUCER
Dan Cartmail

Dan is a very motivated artist who has used the time in lockdown productively to write various EPs, singles and his own album. Not only that, but Dan explores a wide variety of genres ranging from indie to electronic music (garage, dubstep and electronica). He records his own guitar and blends it with a wide variety of electronic instruments.

COMPOSITION

Ryna - No More

Ryna has produced a very mature song with some haunting melodies. She has produced a fantastic persona for herself and the song is a clear statement of intent. She has built herself from the ground up to be a confident and fantastic performer.

BEST SOUND RECORDING
George Asquith - Thunderstorm

George records under the name Jillian Dawes. His recording of Thunderstorm was to a very high standard and he has shown excellent technical and creative skills. George was the only learner in the group who didn't use the recording provided and instead chose to record and mix everything himself, which shows great self motivation.

BEST GAME
Asheq Hussain - Backyard Racing

Backyard Racing is a fun, nitro-fuelled, competitive online multiplayer toy car racing game where players get to race circuits around DIY backyard tracks. The well polished and overall presentation of the game is to insanely high levels, raising the bar for game development at Level 3. Aysheq was also shortlisted as a finalist at the BAFTA Young Game Designers Awards 2021.

Lashante Brotherson - Transform Your Demons

The attention to detail and muscle structure must be applauded and acknowledged - such a well-presented piece!

BEST GAME DESIGN/ DEVELOPMENT
Ellie Mousley, Bonita Woralert, Marcus Archibald, Aysheq Hussain & Kane Holley - Minings Pets

The team were tasked by Jagex to create a unique take on their existing mining mechanic for RuneScape. The brief was both complex and challenging for the team and they had no alternative but to approach it in an entirely professional manner in order to successfully produce a solution that was both innovative and effective. The result is Mining Pets.

Claire Taylor, Maisie Meakin & Grace Banks - Can You Feel My Heart

A professional group of students who worked well with the Music Performance students. Together they produced a professional-looking music video that is genre appropriate and intriguing to the viewer.


The performance is by Distorted Vision of a cover of Bring Me The Horizon.

BEST PHOTOGRAPH
Claire Taylor - Identity

In response to the theme 'Who Can I Be Now?', Claire produced a well-planned and fascinating trio of images that gracefully depict the transition of a friend. This triptych explores the fluidity of gender expression and the nature of identity in a mature and evocative way which encourages the viewer to reflect on change, expression and permanence in our society.

Lily Thorpe - Respectability Will Not Save You

Lily has created a humorous and cutting satirical collage by responding to current affairs and issues relevant to her project. This piece of work explores digital media and contemporary image-making techniques

A hard working group of young people who have created a business in college that they have used to solidify their place in the local music scene. They have worked hard at ACC events and have been active in pushing and promoting the college.

A very hard working student who has achieved high grades throughout their two years of study with us. Tallulah is reliable and has worked hard at college events.

Georgia Hardy

This young lady has evolved every year she has studied with us. At the last student showcase, she exhibited a full evolution into a confident musician who now not only has the talent but the look and drive. She is a huge success story for us here in Birmingham.

Szymon Nowicki

We are amazed by the perseverance of this student! He is positive and hard-working and has studied a Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 qualification with ACC, with English as a second language. Szymon is now going to university to study music production. He has worked so hard in lockdown and deserves this award.

Georgia Millership

Georgia has worked so hard and has all-around Distinctions. She is enthusiastic about this course and the music industry itself. She loves what she does, which is evident by the work she puts in.

A fantastic student in and outside of the classroom, he has been nominated for a BAFTA and is very talented. He also won the Birmingham Best Game award.

Levi Griffin

Levi battled through the pandemic and mental health to end the year with good grades. Has travelled so far, achieving amazing grades and challenging himself through the process. He is growing into an incredible animator.

Brian Roberts

Brian has produced multiple games while battling with anxiety. He has challenged himself and forced through, to get to where he wants to be. His work is to a brilliant standard and he is showing great improvement and dedication ahead of level 3.

Liah English

Liah makes an excellent contribution to her class, helping students with their coursework. She is reliable and has worked closely with the college to help with recruitment. Liah consistently produces fantastic concepts.

Riley is the well deserved winner of the media progress award. His journey of learning through the year has not been easy and he has shown great resilience and perseverance in becoming a committed, well-liked and high-achieving member of the college community.

PROGRESS AWARD
Emily Drummond

Emily is a truly amazing student who has made remarkable progress in Maths GCSE this year. She has a virtual 100% attendance record and attended online Maths lessons every week, sometimes twice per week. Emily coined the phrase "The only way is Maths" and this became our greeting to each other and has also spread around the campus. Her positivity and desire really shone through during the dark days of covid. A truly inspirational student!
