SPECIAL AWARD WINNERS

UNSUNG HERO
Ryan Brunning, Norwich

For a student who goes above and beyond, behind the scenes.

Ryan has a responsibility at home, caring for his mum and siblings, while also managing his own learning differences and disabilities. As a result, Ryan had to juggle family responsibilities with his course work, but he achieved this admirably. He worked very hard to gain Merits and Distinctions in all his assignments. The fact that he is always exceptionally polite and respectful was the icing on the cake!

Judged by Joanne Croxford: Joanne is a Wellness & Diversity Specialist specialising in live touring. She has worked with Music Support, Girls Rock London, 3T and the Tour Production Group.

YES I CAN AWARD
Arushi Sandhu, London

For a student who faces, or has faced, a barrier to learning.

Arushi faced economic difficulties, working two different part-time jobs to help her family. She also took care of two of her classmates who had been dealing with their own struggles related to mental health safeguarding. Despite all this, she managed to consistently produce the best work of her class, going the extra mile to present absolutely extraordinary graphic design pieces.

Judged by Sunny SJ Winter: Sunny has worked in social media and content creation in the music industry including BBC Introducing Live, Latitude Festival, Bestival, and Wild Paths. He is currently Assistant Manager in Neighbouring Rights at Kobalt Music.

WELLBEING CHAMPION
Alex Davies, Manchester

For a student who has done great things to promote mental health and wellbeing.

Alex is a campaigner and champion for social change. He has formed No Child Left Behind UK - a community interest company that aims to increase the support given to bereaved young people. His work in bereavement support has gained the endorsement of 200+ politicians and young campaigners, including Sir Ed Davey MP and Angela Rayner MP.

Judged by Becky Lawrence: Becky is a former music artist who now works as Director for the charity, Billy Clayton Bloom Foundation. Billy was a former ACC student, an amazing artist who was recognised by Charlie XCX and sadly passed away from cancer in 2019.

NATIONAL MUSIC AWARDS

BEST BAND
Serotones
York

The Serotones feature Joe Adams on bass and Tom Elliot on drums. They have continued at college while the band has received increasingly positive publicity and promotion. This includes label interest and a marketing promotion with leading clothing brand, Scotts. Via a high profile industry promotions team (This Feeling), they have a series of festival and gig dates lined up (WhyNot/Isle of Wight), as well as a support slot tour and regular use of their music on sports TV. The band have a good following on social media.

Judged by music manager, Ian Johnson from Cetera. Cetera provide management and promotion services for upcoming artists.

BEST SOLO ARTIST
Gabby Rivers
Norwich

Gabby is unique artist who has worked extremely hard writing, recording, releasing and gigging original music that has been capturing the attention of industry professionals nationwide. She released her debut EP Headache on all all music platforms and notched up plays on both BBC 6 Music and BBC introducing. She has also played Latitude Festival, Sundown Festival, Wild Paths and Wild Fields Festivals, to name a few. Gabby is a determined young artist who is destined to make waves in the industry in the very near future.

Judged by Lili Caseley, an alumni of the Artist Development programme. Lili is the first act on the Cetera roster. She is signed to Graduation/Lucky Streak and is also a writer for acts like Culture Shock and Souls.

BEST PRODUCER
Alfie White
Bristol

Alfie is an excellent multi-genre producer, demonstrating his skills on Logic in production, structure and synthesis. He has pulled his work, artwork, logos and portfolio together to produce a website which showcases his excellent work as a producer.

Judged by P0gman a former ACC student and dubstep/bass producer who has built an international reputation from his releases and tours. He also pushes and supports music from other artists via the label IAMAudio.

BEST SONG/
COMPOSITION

Elijah Callingham & Mikelis Dzerve
London

For their amazing, dynamic and highly creative collaborative project. A 9.5 minute composition exploring texture and harmony, focusing building tension and elevation through arrangement and mixing techniques.

Judged by artist Frank Hamilton. Frank has shared stages with ACC Patron, Ed Sheeran, and runs the Bedroom Indie label. He is also author of a new music mentoring guide.

BEST SOUND RECORDING
Nikolas Booty
Norwich

Nik recorded and produced this fantastic dynamic recording of Gabby's song over several sessions. This utilised a complete pre-production, recording and mixing process that is essential when working with a solo artist. He used college-based musicians to perform alongside Gabby's main takes, including himself on drums. As well as a range of well-chosen recording techniques, Nik mixed the song in the analogue domain, using the Audient 4816 console and outboard equipment. This classic studio approach places Gabby's performance and song front and centre.

Judged by Cameron Craig, a major producer, mixer and engineer who has worked with the likes of Adele, Björk, Sia, Grace Jones, Christina Aguilera, Annie Lennox, Amy Winehouse, U.N.K.L.E. and Joe Strummer. He has won two Grammys, one for the recording of Adele's 25. His film and television soundtrack work includes The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

BEST GAME
Luke Salmon, Henry Ball, Jordan Clarke & Harrison Doxey
Lincoln

A brilliant display of teamwork across art and tech, early on in the academic year, created something funny yet thought provoking. This team worked very independently and utlised a great deal of time outside of class to fulfil the brief of their first games jam. The result is Gayliens which follows the theme of diversity.

Judged by Jo Summer, Programme Lead at Unity. Jo leads some of Unity's most powerful R&D projects and was the former head of Global Game Jam UK. She is also the co-founder of Now Play This, the yearly game festival at Somerset House in London.

BEST GAME ART
Alex Lawrence
Bristol

Alex has consistently created high-quality concept art throughout the year within all of his projects. He has shown professionalism in his work and created some inspiring pieces with great technical ability. Over the course of the year Alex has always produced concept art that reflects professional standards, making the most of any work experience opportunities and putting in an inspiring amount of effort.

Judged by Slava Lawson from Outplay. Slava is the senior animator and artist at Outplay, one of the UK's largest and most successful mobile game developers, responsible for Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast and Castle Creeps TD.

BEST GAME DESIGN/ DEVELOPMENT
Ellie Mousley, Bonita Woralert, Marcus Archibald, Aysheq Hussain & Kane Holley
Birmingham

The team were tasked by Jagex to create a unique take on their existing mining mechanic for RuneScape. The brief was both complex and challenging for the team and they had no alternative but to approach it in an entirely professional manner in order to successfully produce a solution that was both innovative and effective. The result is Mining Pets.

Judged by David Dingvean, Senior Developer at 505 Games. David is the lead developer at one of the largest game publishers in the world, responsible for hits like Death Stranding, Hellblade and Dead by Daylight.

BEST FILM/VIDEO
Phillip Kapadia
London

Philip is an incredible film maker and editor, with a range of experience outside of his time at the college.

His solo-project factual TV show is not only incredibly accurate for the time, but also well-shot and edited.

Judged by Stitch Richardson who runs Spindle, a film studio which works with brands, labels and agencies. They have done work for Apple Music for Rag’n’Bone Man; also for Arlo Parks as well as FIFA 21, Porsche and Adidas.

BEST PHOTOGRAPH
Millie Naylor
Manchester

Millie is an amazing photographer who is a real natural. She also puts in the hours to hone and polish her photographs to make them special. She has an eye for composition and form much more akin to a HE learner and totally understands light and the effects it has on an image. There are so many to choose from, but we feel this is one of here strongest pieces.

Judged by award-winning photographer, Debby Besford. Debbie has worked as a freelance documentary photographer for over 25 years and her clients include The Guardian and Independent newspapers, The BBC and Channel 4. She has had exhibitions at The Palace of Westminster, The Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool and the Retina World Photography Show, Edinburgh.

Cassie approached the project to create a set of minimal poster designs at a near professional level from start to finish. She followed the design process to the letter, from initial brainstorming and research through to sketches and refined final outcomes. This level of professionalism would be welcomed at industry level.

Judged by Amy Gettings from Hey!What?, a leading design and brand agency in Bristol whose clients include Glastonbury’s West Holts Stage, Clarkes shoes and Boomtown and Love Saves the Day festivals.
